Top 10 B-Schools Abroad: The Complete Indian Student's Guide Tuition, real placement salaries, visa rules and admission odds at Wharton, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, INSEAD, LBS and five more — decoded for Indian applicants.

CampusNewz Careers Desk August 17, 2026 🕑 16 min read 📊 2026–27 tuition & Class of 2025 employment data

Ten schools, four countries, one very expensive decision. Every year thousands of Indian professionals shortlist the same global MBA brands — Wharton, Harvard, Stanford, MIT — without a clear-eyed view of what each one actually costs, pays back, and demands in return. This guide puts the real 2026–27 tuition figures, the latest published salary data and the visa fine print for each school side by side, so the comparison is about your goals, not just global brand recall.

A note on the numbers: Business schools report median or average base salary, not a guaranteed "highest package" the way Indian placement brochures sometimes do. Where a school publishes a high or top-decile figure, it is labelled clearly below. Currency conversions use approximate rates of $1 = ₹95.62, £1 = ₹129.56, €1 = ₹110.12 — rates move, so treat INR figures as indicative, not final.

Visa & Post-Study Work Comparison

The single most-underestimated factor in choosing a destination. A cheaper, shorter MBA in the wrong visa window can cost more in lost job-search time than a pricier one.

USA

F-1 Student Visa

Post-study work through OPT (12 months); qualifying STEM-designated MBA tracks can add a further 24-month STEM OPT extension. Always confirm your specific programme/major carries the STEM designation before you apply.

United Kingdom

Student Visa → Graduate Visa

Graduate visa currently runs 2 years for applications submitted by 31 December 2026, dropping to 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027. Students starting a 2027 intake should plan around the shorter window.

France

Long-Stay Student Visa

Eligible graduates of a qualifying French institution (HEC Paris, INSEAD Fontainebleau) can apply for a 1-year job-search / company-creation residence permit after graduation, subject to conditions.

Singapore

Student's Pass

Applies to INSEAD's Singapore campus track. Employment after graduation requires the appropriate work pass; INSEAD Singapore is listed among the country's recognised Institutes of Higher Learning.

5

Accommodation: What to Actually Expect

A common misconception among Indian applicants is that these schools work like Indian residential colleges, with a hostel room automatically allocated. They generally don't.

USA

Harvard, Wharton, MIT, Stanford, Kellogg and Columbia offer university/graduate housing, but availability and allocation vary by school and year. Many MBA students end up in private apartments with roommates.

UK

Cambridge has the strongest traditional college/residential system of the three UK-style options. LBS, in central London, doesn't operate like a conventional residential campus — most students arrange private housing.

France

HEC has a genuine campus/residential environment near Jouy-en-Josas. INSEAD Fontainebleau students generally arrange student or private accommodation around the campus town.

Singapore

INSEAD students on the Singapore campus need to independently arrange accommodation; housing in Singapore can be notably expensive compared with the France campus.

6

What Jobs Can You Realistically Target?

The important caveat: an MBA does not automatically guarantee a US/UK/European job. Your pre-MBA story, internship performance, networking and visa sponsorship situation matter enormously.
