Journey & History
A Legacy of Leadership & Excellence
Since 1935, The Doon School has nurtured generations of achievers who have excelled across diverse fields worldwide — remaining committed to inspiring future leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

The Doon School was established in 1935 by Satish Ranjan Das, a lawyer inspired by the model of British public schools but rooted firmly in Indian identity and values. His vision was to create a secular, all-boys' boarding institution that would nurture young minds from all parts of India and prepare them to lead a free, democratic nation.

The first Headmaster, Arthur E. Foot (from Eton College), set the guiding ethos that has endured for nine decades — shaping students not just as scholars, but as principled, compassionate citizens ready to serve.

Today, Doon has grown into a prestigious residential community of around 600 students (ages 12–18) living and learning on a picturesque 70-acre campus in the foothills of the Himalayas, affectionately known as Chandbagh. The school draws students from across India and the world, creating a rich cultural fabric that defines the Dosco experience.

"Boys should leave The Doon School as members of an aristocracy of service — inspired by ideals of unselfishness, not privilege or wealth."

Education That Goes Beyond the Classroom

Education is the cornerstone of human development. At Doon, we witness young minds light up with new ideas — the very moments that shape inventors, artists, scientists, leaders and reformers.
Our focus is on blending academics with sports, creativity, life skills, critical thinking, compassion, and social values. These lessons prepare students not just for exams, but for life — teaching them to be ethical, principled, and responsible citizens in a changing world.
Our mission remains to attract exceptional learners and teachers nationwide, inspire them to be just and wise leaders, and prepare them for life within one of the strongest alumni fraternities in the world.
