In a major curriculum reform, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has made Health & Physical Education a compulsory subject for students of Classes 9 to 12 from the 2026 academic session. The decision aims to promote students’ physical fitness, mental well-being, healthy lifestyles, and overall personality development. Schools affiliated with CISCE will now integrate structured health education, physical fitness activities, and wellness programmes into their regular curriculum. Education experts have welcomed the move, stating that academic excellence should be complemented by physical and emotional well-being. The initiative aligns with India’s vision of holistic education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and is expected to benefit lakhs of students across ICSE and ISC schools nationwide.
