Beyond Headlines. The Complete Story.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Union ministers to spend time interacting with students at universities and visit government schools in their constituencies to assess facilities available to children. The directions were discussed at the Union Cabinet meeting and are aimed at strengthening engagement with younger generations, including Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
Under the proposed “One Day, One University” programme, Union ministers are expected to visit universities, interact directly with students, hear their concerns and understand their views on issues affecting young people. The initiative is also expected to provide an opportunity to explain government schemes related to education, employment and youth development.
Ministers have also been asked to visit government schools and review facilities, including midday meals and other basic amenities. The school visits could help bring greater attention to infrastructure, teaching and student welfare.
Separately, ministers were asked to improve meaningful communication through social-media platforms rather than simply reposting government decisions.
For students, the larger significance is direct dialogue. Giving young people opportunities to raise concerns, share ideas and discuss education, careers and national issues can help bring fresh perspectives into policymaking.
