Beyond Headlines. The Complete Story.
IIT Madras has opened registration for GATE 2027, allowing eligible candidates to apply through the official GATE 2027 portal. The regular registration window will remain open until September 27, 2026, without a late fee. Candidates who miss the deadline can submit their applications with a late fee until October 5. The application correction window is scheduled from October 14 to 21.
A major change in the GATE 2027 application process is the introduction of DigiLocker-based registration for Indian candidates. Candidates will need a verified DigiLocker account, and important details such as their name, date of birth and identity information may be fetched during registration. Applicants are advised to verify these details carefully before submitting the form.
GATE 2027 will also introduce a new Robotics and Automation (RA) test paper, taking the total number of papers to 30. IIT Madras has additionally announced changes to selected paper codes and syllabi.
The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The result is scheduled to be announced on March 19, 2027.
During the regular registration period, the application fee will be ₹2,000 per paper for most candidates and ₹1,000 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates. During the extended period, the fee will increase to ₹2,500 and ₹1,500, respectively.
GATE scores are widely used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programmes and are also considered by several public sector organisations for recruitment.
