FROM ‘OGS’ TO ICONS: PM MODI SALUTES SRCC’S 100-YEAR LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the century-long journey of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), praising generations of its students and alumni for making their mark across diverse fields.

Addressing the college’s centenary celebrations, Modi connected with the younger generation by using a popular Gen Z expression, describing the institution’s alumni as “OGs” — the original achievers who carried the college’s reputation far beyond its campus.

Reflecting on SRCC’s legacy, the Prime Minister highlighted how its students have excelled in different areas and contributed to the nation’s development. With a touch of humour, he remarked that the college’s alumni may or may not all be “stalwarts”, but they had certainly “made a mark”.

Modi also remembered former Union minister and SRCC alumnus Arun Jaitley, recalling how Jaitley would often share stories and experiences connected with his college days.

The Prime Minister described the centenary as a significant milestone, noting that SRCC’s journey began from a modest space in Daryaganj before evolving into one of the country’s most recognised institutions for commerce and management education.

During the event, Modi released a commemorative ₹100 coin featuring the college’s name and logo to mark its 100-year journey. Two commemorative books, documenting the institution’s history and contributions of its alumni, were also released.

Reflecting on the significance of completing a century, Modi said that while an individual who reaches 100 years represents an ocean of experience, an institution completing a century becomes an ocean of achievements and inspiration.

The celebrations also looked towards the future, with emphasis on preparing students for professional careers, leadership and public life.

The centenary celebration therefore became more than a milestone—it was a recognition of a century of ideas, ambition, achievement and alumni who have carried the institution’s legacy into different walks of life.

For today’s students, the message was clear: legacy is not simply inherited; it is built by every generation that follows.
