Overview — What is CUET?

India's single common entrance test for all Central and participating universities

CUET — Common University Entrance Test

CUET (Common University Entrance Test) is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Central Universities and 250+ other participating institutions across India. It replaced individual university entrance exams like DUET, JNUEE, and others.

CUET score is valid only for the academic year of the examination. Scores are not carried forward to the next year. Each university sets its own cut-off percentile independently based on CUET scores.

Why CUET Matters

BenefitDetails
One ExamSingle test for 250+ universities — no separate entrance exams for DU, JNU, BHU etc.
Equal OpportunityClass 12 board marks NOT the only criteria — performance standardized
Saves Cost & TimeOne registration, one exam fee — covers all participating universities
NCERT BasedSyllabus directly from Class 12 NCERT — no extra coaching required
Multiple ChoicesSelect up to 6 domain subjects — apply to diverse programs simultaneously
Language OptionsExam available in 13 languages — accessible across India
TransparencyScore-based merit — no personal interviews for UG admission in most universities
CUET replaces Class 12 board marks as admission criteria for Central Universities. However, many universities still require minimum 50% in Class 12 as basic eligibility. Board marks alone NO LONGER guarantee DU / JNU admission.

Preparation Strategy & Tips

How to score high in CUET UG and PG — especially for management programs

Choose Subjects Strategically

Select domain subjects that match ALL your target programs. For BMS/BBA: Business Studies + Economics + Accountancy + General Test is mandatory. Don't choose irrelevant subjects wasting attempts. Check each target university's required CUET subjects before applying.

Stick to NCERT — It's the Base

CUET UG syllabus is directly from Class 11 & 12 NCERT textbooks. Read every chapter, every example, every exercise. No separate coaching required for basics — perfect NCERT + PYQ (Previous Year Questions) from NTA is sufficient for 90%+ score.

Time Management in Exam

In Section II (Domain), you attempt 35 out of 40 — skip the 5 hardest. In General Test, attempt 50 out of 60. Start with questions you're confident about. With +5/–1 marking, wrong answers are very costly — skip if below 20% confidence. Practice full-length mocks with timer.

General Test — Extra Marks

Most students neglect GT. But GT is the differentiator for DU admissions — BMS, B.Com(H), BA Economics all require it and merit includes GT score. Practice reasoning, basic maths (Class 10 level), and current affairs for 3 months before exam. 240+ in GT is achievable with focused practice.

Apply to Multiple Universities

CUET score is accepted by 250+ universities. Apply to DU (via CSAS), JNU, BHU, HCU, AMU, Pondicherry and private universities all with one score. Keep both Central and Private options open. Registration on individual university portals is separate from CUET registration — don't miss deadlines.

Current Affairs for GA Section

General Test and PG Part A both test Current Affairs from the past 6 months. Read one newspaper daily (The Hindu / Indian Express). Focus on: Govt schemes, appointments, awards, sports, economy. Make a monthly notes file. This section can be mastered in 30 min/day.
